Arbor Educational and Clinical Consulting Inc. is dedicated to practice, evaluation and research with the goals of enriching the lives of children, adolescents and adults in the area of overall well-being (social, emotional, psychological and physical). Through thoughtful planning, reflection and review of latest research and evaluation, four areas are of focus: needs assessments, program design, program delivery and program evaluation.
Director


Based in Vancouver, British Columba, Arbor Educational and Clinical Consulting is under the direction of Denise Buote , B.A., B.Ed. (U.B.C.), M.A. (U of Chicago) and Ph.D. (U.B.C). In. B.C., she has worked as a teacher in French Immersion, elementary classrooms, a learning resource centre and a school district program for children with learning, emotional and behavioral challenges. In addition, she has worked as a social worker for the Ministry for Children and Family Development.
In the USA, Denise worked as a teacher, milieu therapist and individual therapist in a long-term residential treatment center for children and adolescents who suffer from severe mental health issues. She has also worked as an individual therapist in an outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry unit at a large urban hospital.
Denise has worked as an instructor in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia for the past ten years (focus on child and youth development and special education) and was Acting Research Director in the UBC Faculty of Medicine's Division for Continuing Professional Development and Knowledge Translation during 2007-2008. She has an extensive research background specializing in child and youth mental health and well-being. Her doctoral work focused on examining the relation between attachment and resiliency. This area of research was influenced by her educational and clinical work with children and youth over the past several years. In addition to her work as a clinical counselor, she is actively involved in leading community-based research and evaluation projects in the areas of child and adolescent-focused initiatives. In 2008, she founded a charity (www.bamboochildren.org) aimed to foster resiliency in children and adolescents through community-based programs in Canada and Indonesia.
Memberships include the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (registered clinical counsellor), British Columbia College of Teachers (certified teacher), American Evaluation Association and the Canadian Evaluation Society (credentialed evaluator).
Given the diversity and scope of projects, other collaborators are included on the project team as needed. This includes complementing the team with consultants who have specific language and technical skills.
